Product Information
Operation:
- The ECV is designed to relieve excess pressure caused by water expanding during the heating cycle.
- It is NORMAL for the ECV to release drips of water during the heating cycle.
- Fitting an ECV to a hot water system will prolong the life of the PTR valve and the water heater.
- It is recommended to flush the ECV every six months to clear deposits from around the valve seat.
- The ECV has been set in the factory and cannot be adjusted or serviced.
- The date of manufacture can be found on the Indicator Disc. See warranty statement for further information.
NEVER USE AN EXPANSION CONTROL VALVE AS A REPLACEMENT FOR A PRESSURE TEMPERATURE & RELIEF VALVE
Installation:
- NEFA valves should always be installed by a licensed plumber in accordance with National Plumbing and Drainage Code AS/NZ3500.4.
- The installation must also comply with any Local Authority requirements and the water heater manufacturer’s requirements.
- The ECV must be fitted vertically or horizontally to a tee on the cold water inlet line to the water heater.
- There must be no other valve between the ECV and the inlet connection to the water heater.
- Ensure the energy input to the heater does not exceed the rating of the ECV and that the set pressure on the valve indicator disc is correct for the installation.
- Ensure flushing handle is accessible.
- Use sound trade practice in fitting the valve. Use the spanner flats provided. Ensure that sealing materials, e.g. thread tape or thread sealing paste, do not intrude into flow passages as this could cause obstruction to flow and failure of the valve.
- Install drain line in accordance with AS/NZ 3500.4,
- Never expose valves to a torch flame or heat. Heat will destroy the seals and sealing parts.
- Check the inlet water pressure does not exceed the maximum stated in the table below.
- Install a PLV as required.
