Methven is New Zealand's longest established tap and showerware supplier and has been manufacturing tapware since soon after the foundation of G Methven and Company in Dunedin in 1886.

Today, Methven is a product of the amalgamation of the original Dunedin based operations, which are synonymous with tapware and bathroom fittings, and the Auckland based HMC, a company which can trace origins back to 1947. The business is now exclusively focused on designing and manufacturing showerware, tapware and domestic water control valves.

George Methven opens an iron and brass foundry in Dunedin.

1940's
Post-war business focus turned to manufacturing tapware and valving.

2001
NEFA successfully enters Australian domestic water valve market through an exclusive distribution arrangement.

2004
Methven Ltd Lists on the NZX and acquires 100% of Methven Australia.

2006
NEFA Australia a division of Methven Australia Pty Ltd is created to market and distribute valves in Australia.

2007
NEFA Australia takes full control of marketing, operations and distribution of the NEFA branded valves.

Expansion into Australia and Flexispray Acquisition
In 2001, Methven successfully entered the Australian domestic water valving market through an exclusive distribution arrangement for its domestic water control valves. Sales of valving in Australia have grown strongly since launch.

In 2003, Methven acquired a 60% interest in the Australian showerware business of longstanding Methven supplier, Flexispray Pty Limited. The Flexispray business is now operated under the name of Methven Australia Pty Ltd. In November 2004, Methven Ltd. acquired 100% ownership of Methven Australia (on Listing).

In 2006 NEFA Australia was created by Methven Australia Pty Ltd to market and distribute the NEFA branded valves. NEFA Australia has formed a National Marketing and Sales team who along with an agent network will provide account and service support. NEFA will distribute the valves through the already established Methven distribution network.
